This month’s “Summer Saturation” collection is inspired by Chicago artist, Nick Cave’s first career retrospective titled “Forothermore” which Kalisher will be visiting in July.
The installation, curated by the Guggenheim’s Naomi Beckwith, is on display this summer at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and features many of the artist’s “Soundsuits” which were created in response to the 1992 police assault of Rodney King. Cave’s “Soundsuits” have come to be visual embodiments over empowerment. The pieces serve to hide skin color, gender and markers of class when worn in performances while speaking to the artist’s trademark Maximalist style which embraces rich fabrics, elaborate beading, layers of texture and mixed metal embellishments. Please enjoy this June collection which celebrates ‘Summer Saturation’ reflecting the pure intensity of color and abundances of summer through fresh work by contemporary artists, artists Kalisher has commissioned work from and custom creations by Kalisher’s talented team of Studio Artists.
