Modular pieces create a contemporary mobile in The Cartwright’s lobby atrium.
Sparkling with gold, white, and deep blue petals, this custom sculptural piece curated by Kalisher was created and installed by artist Abbie Powers to wow guests as they enter the historic Cartwright hotel. Built in 1915, the apartment-style building retains all its antique charm with carved wood detailing and ornate architectural details. Owners of the hotel have heard guests comment on the installation’s charming shower of petals above the reception desk, and have mentioned their delight in seeing guests enjoy the artwork!
Artist Abbie Powers is an expert with modular works, having created several over the years for various Kalisher projects in all sorts of up-high places. She carefully designs and cuts each bloom, then heats and shapes them into unique forms by hand. Stacking them together and hanging at different heights, they float and fall gracefully in the double-height atrium of the hotel. The delicate dimensional work is complemented by custom wallcoverings fitted to the uniquely shaped space. See progress pics and the final installation below!
