Artist Stuart Allen was commissioned by our team to create these elegant, site-specific art installations using sailcloth, oiled wood, and metal fastenings.
We were thrilled to be able to work with artist Stuart Allen on these incredible installations in the dining space of the Hyatt Centric Fort Lauderdale in Florida, designed by the talents at Simeone Deary Design. Surrounded by coastal metropolis Fort Lauderdale, the hotel required art that exudes elegance while paying homage to the nearby ocean and seafaring industry.
Allen uses crisp white sailcloth, neatly hemmed and sewn, to build shapes that float effortlessly off the wall. Pulled taught by simple metal fastenings reminiscent of their much larger counterparts aboard ships and boats, the fabric shapes come to life in natural light. Simple oiled wood brackets accent the ethereal compositions, grounding them in the space with the organic texture of the wood. These pieces are dynamic, responding to changing light filtering through adjacent windows, creating new atmospheres every hour for guests to experience and enjoy.
Allen’s works capture the essence of this hotel – explore the finest of details in these pieces below.
