Mural artist Ali Futrell transforms the multifamily residential apartments, Runway Playa Vista, with bold colors and incorporated wayfinding.
Residents of Runway Playa Vista can feel the vibrant pulse of LA in the layered, bold shapes and beach themes in the parking garage and feature walls outside of the complex. Residents and guests follow the movement in the colorful shapes and carefully placed text to navigate through these spaces. The Kalisher Curation team worked closely with artist Ali Futrell to integrate wayfinding elements into every aspect of her design. Hand-painted text is integrated with the murals in hand-painted, nostalgic lettering that matches the carefree energy of the abstracted shapes.
Elements such as palm trees and waves call out the local landscape of LA without relying too heavily on iconic motifs. The many-colored layers of loose, lazy shapes speaks to the younger residents Runway Playa Vista appeals to.
