Art in Focus: Can You Knot?

Dramatic and towering above restaurant guests, artist Candice Luter’s work is right at home within Nine Tailed Fox.

Nine Tailed Fox, a sophisticated new Chinese eatery in Baltimore, MD, is set aglow every evening as guests arrive. Warm lighting throws this deliciously textural artwork into relief at the center of all the buzz in the restaurant. Weaving and knotting huge lengths of heavy twisted rope, Candice Luter created and composed each element of the piece to coordinate with the restaurant’s interior color story. Using deeply dyed jade green fibers and punctuations of smooth stone beads, the hanging elements feel at once weighty and gracefully light. Playing on the restaurant’s marriage of tradition with innovative transformation, the art collection inspires a sense of awe and adventure while echoing tradition.
