PDN Reviews Around the World in 89 Photographs
New York Gallery Owner Michael Foley writes about Around the World in 89 Photographs in the latest edition of Photo District News online. He says, " Jesse has what I would call a large vision in life. What distinguishes one photographer from the next ... is a vision of life, the way we creatively interpret the world so that it makes sense for us. Around the World in 89 Photographs. The very title tells us that we are in for an adventure, that each photograph will be a corner to turn, likely into an unfamiliar world." Read the full article and explore the collection. |

Copyright Infringement — Victory Declared!
Parkstone Press, which reproduced two of Jesse's photographs without permission in a recent book responded to several emails and a final invoice by... paying it! "This is a terrific and unexpected development," Jesse said. Six months after first attempting to contact Parkstone, and without any real progress as well as evidence of additional potential fraud on the part of the publisher, the gallery did not expect to be paid without a court fight. In fact, one of Jesse's lawyers was preparing a demand letter and was making plans to serve papers in New York and London when the check arrived. The original infringement aside, getting paid and avoiding the court battle is all good news so far as we're concerned. |

The Tahiti Photography Workshop Renewed for 2011!
Jesse returned from 2.5 weeks of leading photo expeditions and workshops in French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, Morea and more) at the end of August. The program was sponsored by Paul Gauguin Cruises and were a smashing success. As a result, Paul Gauguin Cruises and Jesse are pleased to announce the 2011 Tahiti Photography Workshops which will run for two cruises over 3 weeks in August, 2011. Details to follow soon.
"It was my great fortune to have booked a vacation that coincided with a Photo Workshop being conducted by Jesse Kalisher. The group consisted of a dozen people, however, the atmosphere Jesse created made it seem as though you were in a one on one environment. The instruction was delivered in a manner that brought out the artistic side in myself that I never thought existed. Jesse conducted classroom lectures, field photo shoots, personal photo evalutions and created a true family warmth. If I ever have the opportunity to relive this adventure with Jesse, I will be the first to sign up. Thanks Jesse for the best learning experience I can ever remember having."

Ansel Adams or Earl Brooks?
Rick Norsigian, the man who found 60+ glass negatives in a garage sale that he now asserts were created by Ansel Adams - and his lawyer - have hired Jesse to make prints from these now controversial negatives. The Ansel Adams Trust and the Ansel Adams family believe these negatives were created by a previously unknown photographer named Earl Brooks. Whoever created these pictures, everyone involved agrees on one thing: they're marvelous and deserve to be seen. Jesse has no idea who created the images but has fallen in love with the negatives. You can read his blog post about the negatives and his conversations with Ansel Adams' grandson Matthew. |

Adobe Now Sponsoring Jesse's Work
We're thrilled to announce that Adobe is now sponsoring Jesse's work. "We use Adobe Creative Suite 5 in the gallery," Jesse says. "It provides a full compliment of powerful tools that help us achieve the quality and the look we're after with consistency and predictability. That's the most we could ask of a creative software package." |

New Collection

New York
We've added 159 pictures to the New York collection. Jesse grew up in Manhattan and always enjoys returning to photograph there. He and his family spent a week there at the start of the summer - the results are new images from Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, The Puerto Rican Day Parade and more. "Oddly enough, I find shooting in NY can be a challenge," Jesse says. "Everything is so familiar, I miss the excitement of discovery. Still," he added, "when I pick up my camera and look through the viewfinder, everything comes alive and I can't stop shooting."
